3 day cave, day 3

We wake at a more respectable time shortly after 6, so decide to get going. The plan is to check out a helictite grotto nearby. Coffee & dry muesli fuels us and the pack up is done quickly. I had recently purchased a larger cave pack from Access Gear, run by Pete, a keen caver/ canyoner. It is no longer looking new but I’m glad of the 36litres.

3 day cave, day 2

I can’t believe it, we slept in. With a tiring day just gone, darkness with total silence and remnants of world travel, I shouldn’t be surprised. 9.17am though! The plan is to head over the stream to check out a side system, I’ve been a fair way up here before but haven’t explored the side passages. There is also a rumour of a blockage to one of the entrances called Henry viii.

3 day cave, day 1

Participants: Ollie O’Brien (ABS staff member & up for an adventure) & me Plan: 3 days in Gardner’s Gut system, camping, finding some other exits and staying out of some expected high water. During May I attended a 3 day vertical rope rescue course followed 2 weeks later by a cave SARex (search & rescue exercise). During the exercise I was inspired to push the time I spent underground.
